Proposed Executive Board Structure

One Executive Board. Eight Defined Roles.

Every role owns one portfolio, and no two roles share a responsibility. These are the people to grab at an event, or email with ideas and complaints.

  1. 01 Founder and President

    Jamil Nurmammadli

    Leadership & Representation

    Lead
    Chair board meetings and the General Assembly, set the board’s annual priorities and resolve issues between portfolios.
    Represent
    Act as AzSA’s official representative towards the university, public authorities and other official bodies.

  2. 02 Vice President – Internal Affairs

    Ali Ahmadov

    Operations & Internal Coordination

    Coordinate
    Align departmental activities and timelines, monitor deadlines and keep communication flowing across the board.
    Improve
    Maintain internal procedures, resolve operational bottlenecks and follow up on the delivery of board decisions.

  3. 03 Vice President – Governance & Strategy

    Jalal Rzayev

    Governance, Strategy & Secretariat

    Acts as Secretary

    Secretary
    Convene official meetings, prepare agendas, keep the minutes and decision register, and manage board handovers.
    Strategise
    Translate the annual priorities into a strategic plan, track progress against it and safeguard statutory compliance.

  4. 04 Treasurer

    Vacant until appointed

    Financial Management & Control

    Budget
    Prepare the annual budget, allocate approved budgets to portfolios and monitor spending against them.
    Account
    Keep the financial records, process authorised payments and report on finances to the board and the ALV.

  5. 05 Head of Human Resources

    Fatima Alibakhshiyeva

    Membership & People Development

    Recruit
    Lead member and volunteer recruitment and onboarding, and maintain the membership register.
    Develop
    Drive engagement and retention, support volunteer development, gather feedback and handle personnel matters confidentially.

  6. 06 Head of Partnerships & External Relations

    Vacant until appointed

    Sponsorship & External Cooperation

    Develop
    Build relationships with companies, organisations and student associations, and secure sponsors and collaborations.
    Maintain
    Manage partnership agreements, deliver agreed commitments and grow AzSA’s professional network.

  7. 07 Head of Events & Media Communications

    Events, Marketing & Communications

    Organise
    Plan the event calendar, venues, registrations and logistics.
    Execute
    Run events with the assigned volunteers, deliver them within approved budgets and evaluate the outcomes.
    Communicate
    Manage AzSA’s official channels, social media and campaigns, create content and keep the brand consistent.

  8. 08 Head of Advisory

    Eldar Eyvazli

    Advisory & Innovation

    Develop
    Propose new initiatives and growth opportunities, and assess their feasibility and impact.
    Advise
    Help board members refine their proposals and recommend improvements to their portfolios.

How the board works

Roles & independence
The President leads and represents the board. Both Vice Presidents have equal standing: Internal Affairs coordinates operational delivery, and Governance & Strategy acts as Secretary and owns the strategic plan. Each Head owns one portfolio.
Advisory
The Head of Advisory develops ideas and recommendations, with no supervisory authority over other board members.
Decision-making
Proposed: one vote each; a quorum of five eligible members, subject to AzSA’s statutes; decisions by simple majority of votes cast, and a tie means no approval. The Secretary records every decision; conflicted members neither deliberate nor vote.
Financial control
The Treasurer oversees finances; spending follows approved budgets and authorisation procedures, with a second authorised member approving each payment. Only authorised representatives may bind AzSA.
Vacancies
The Treasurer and Head of Partnerships & External Relations seats remain vacant until appointed. Until then, the board agrees who covers their duties.

Positions turn over every year, and there is always more to do than there are people doing it. The seats marked vacant above are real offers rather than a formality, and each carries the defined responsibilities set out on its card.

Applications open shortly. We will send everyone an update saying the seats are open, so anyone who wants one can apply. After that, we will explain the whole procedure step by step.

There is one requirement, and it is not experience. Only active members can stand for the board. So the order is join first, then apply once the update is out. The rest is learned on the job.
