Nuffic and getting your Azerbaijani diploma recognised

What you actually deal with

When you apply to EUR, the admissions office assesses whether your Azerbaijani qualifications meet the entry requirements, whether that is the attestat or a bachelor’s degree. For most applicants this happens inside the university’s own admission process. You do not order anything separately unless somebody asks you to.

You might need a formal external evaluation, an IDW or Nuffic diploma evaluation, if you are applying somewhere that requests one, or later on for work. It costs money and takes several weeks, so do not leave it to the last minute.

That is what we know as of today. The fees and the processing times move, and we would rather recheck and update this page than leave a stale number sitting here.

Document rules that trip people up

Apostille first, translation second. Azerbaijani documents need an apostille from the issuing authority back home. A translation of an un-apostilled document usually gets bounced.

Translations go through the Notarius at ASAN Xidmət, the same place as the apostille. Doing both in one visit saves you a second trip.

Keep the binding intact. The original and its translation come back bound together with a red band. It is not sticky and it is not decoration. Do not cut it, do not separate the pages, and do not turn up with only a scan. Offices here check that binding.

Never hand over originals unless a checklist explicitly says so. Certified copies exist for a reason.

Bring the originals when you move. Couriering a birth certificate across a continent in October is nobody’s favourite chore, and the gemeente will ask for it.
